The post PAN Comments on NIH Strategic Plan Development appeared first on Parkinson's Action Network.

The Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) submitted comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as part of an open request for information on NIH’s strategic planning process.

NIHSince the request limited the size and scope of submissions, PAN focused its brief comments to urge NIH to leverage the momentum of recent planning efforts to identify and implement priority recommendations for Parkinson’s research. These recommendations focus on making advances in understanding Parkinson’s disease and encourage NIH to seek out opportunities for cross-Institute and Center collaborations to best target research given limited resources.

Under the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act (PL  113-235), NIH is required to develop a five-year, NIH-wide strategic plan to “advance its mission to support research in pursuit of fundamental knowledge and the application of that knowledge to extend healthy life and reduce illness and disability.” Senior leadership and staff from all 27 Institutes, Centers, and Offices are contributing to the proposed direction and content of the plan and developed an initial framework for public comment.

PAN will continue to monitor the progress of the NIH strategic planning process and will engage the community when appropriate if additional opportunities for public comment are made available.

Read PAN’s comments.
