Parkinson’s Action Network (PAN) President and CEO Ted Thompson delivered a congressional update at the 17th Annual Morris K. Udall Centers of Excellence for Parkinson’s Disease Research Directors’ Meeting on October 27.
This year’s meeting brought together the nine current Udall Center directors, as well as the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) staff, and members of the research and patient advocate community. Center directors presented their latest research and participated in very open discussions with NINDS staff about their needs and the future of the Udall Centers.
Ted’s update encouraged the Centers to work closely with PAN to better engage the research community in advocacy for federal priorities, including funding for research and the importance of establishing a national data collection system for Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders.
The Udall Centers were created by the Morris K. Udall Parkinson’s Disease Research Act (PL 105-78) in 1997 to advance Parkinson’s research and improve the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s and related neurodegenerative disorders.
